Our teachers nominated Mrs. Jane Williams to represent Congin as our Teacher of the Year this year. Here is our nomination to Dr. Peter Lancia and the State of Maine:
It is with great pride and pleasure that we nominate Jane Williams, Kindergarten Teacher at Congin Elementary School in Westbrook, as Maine Teacher of the Year. Jane is a teacher who exemplifies the highest level of the definition of ‘teacher’. She goes above and beyond both in the classroom and in life, always putting others before herself without ever complaining. In all honesty, no one on the nominating committee has ever heard her say a negative word about anyone or anything. This may seem like an exaggeration, but it is not. Jane is a bright light in this world. We are blessed to have here on staff at Congin as a teacher, leader, and mentor. She is a very special person.Jane is kind, patient, and always professional. She finds the goodness in all people, but especially her students. She treats each one of her students as if they are the only student in her class, dedicating equitable time, resources, energy, and love to each. Her students adore her and they are entrenched deep in Jane’s heart. When they hurt she hurts and when they are joyful, she beams with a beautiful, infectious smile. If her students need clothing, food, or shelter, Jane either provides it herself or finds other resources to fulfill the needs. Her willingness to give of herself and her own resources is endless, allowing for students in her class to worry less about those primal needs and be more able to learn at the same pace as other students who have those basic needs met. Her students make huge academic gains because of this.As a peer, Jane is found to be one of the most supportive, engaging, encouraging, and humble people in our school. She is the core of our school culture and climate, as she is always looking for ways to celebrate people, support them when they need it, or just lend an ear on a hard day. Jane is the keeper of our Sunshine Fund where she ensures cards and gifts are sent to faculty and staff when needed. She never misses an opportunity to spread her loving and caring spirit with others on behalf of our school. With everything else she has to do, prepping for her classes late into the evening and then teaching during the day, spreading love and joy is always a priority. Jane also takes the lead on our PBIS system at Congin School. She loves celebrating all aspects of student success, including academic, social, emotional, and behavioral growth. She finds silver linings in scenarios that most others don’t see and looks for even the smallest improvements in order to celebrate every single student in our school. She is the heart of our school and makes being a part of our community something students will surely remember fondly for the rest of their lives. She is amazing and would represent our great State of Maine better than any other.
